LOGAN — A 27-year-old California man has admitted to sexually assaulting a child last year. Casey Paul Escalante Jr. has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested Oct. 10, 2024.

According to court documents, Escalante appeared June 25 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, waiving his right to a trial, and pleading guilty to rape of a child, a first-degree felony. A second charge of sodomy on a child was dismissed.

The crime reportedly occurred around April 1, 2024, and were investigated by the Logan City Police Department.

Escalante was arrested in California, Sept. 24, 2024, after a warrant was issued by a judge. He was transferred back to Cache Valley.

Escalante is being held without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 6, and could face more than five years in prison.
