LOGAN – The Logan Downtown Alliance is trying to rally support for a jazz festival.
They have asked a local group Caleb and the Haze to perform at the kick-off act for this new musical event at the Laub Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m., going until 9 p.m.
Caleb Hays is the organizer and composer for the group.
“We’ve played at Summerfest, at the Laub Plaza and some other venues around the valley,” Hayes said. “We will have two percussionists, a bass player, guitar and a keyboard player who also pays the saxophone.”
Hays is a graduate of the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California and has been a musician for 16 years. He came to Logan to collaborate with some friends who moved to Logan to go to the University.
“I’m currently working on a drum project,” he said. “My development as a composer is on the drums. It is a vehicle I use to interpret music.”
Caleb and the Haze are known for their distinctive blend of jazz, funk, soulful melodies and improvisation, they’ve been making waves in Logan’s music scene with a sound that is as energetic as it is unpredictable.
The group brings together talented musicians who aren’t afraid to stretch the boundaries of traditional jazz and take audiences somewhere unexpected.
“We are stoked about playing at the Laub Plaza in front of a live audience,” Hays said. “We plan to give them some music they can appreciate.”
“We hope people will get behind this,” said Gary Saxton. “We would like to turn this into a two- or three-day festival in the future.”
Downtown Summer Jazz celebrates the vibrant music and creative spirit of Cache Valley by bringing exceptional live performances to the heart of downtown Logan. The concert series provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to gather, enjoy local talent and experience the energy of downtown through live music.
“Whether you’re a longtime jazz fan or simply looking for something fun to do on a Saturday evening, Downtown Summer Jazz is the place to be,” he said. “Bring a chair. Bring your friends. Bring your appetite for great music.”
Admission is FREE and everyone is welcome.
