CACHE COUNTY – The Cache Valley Historic Home Tour is slated for Saturday, Sept. 14 and will feature vintage homes in Logan and Hyrum.

The annual event is sponsored by the Cache Valley Historical Society and the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau, according to Scott Bushmen, a member of the society’s board.

The vintage homes in the society’s line-up this year include the Rebekah Giles home, built by Thomas Tarbet in 1865 at 372 West, 100 North in Logan; the Keith and Elizabeth Mott home, built by James W. Quayle in 1898 at 123 North, 200 West in Logan; the Bruce Bugbee home, built by Alvin D. Crockett in 1887 at 82 Crockett Avenue on the Island; the Brandon and Katie Dore home, built by the Clark family in 1907 at 342 West Center Street in Logan; the Jack and Sarah Roberts home, built by Soren Hansen in 1907 at 166 West Main Street in Hyrum; and the Miste Newport home, built by Andon Anderson in 1929 at 443 West, 200 South in Hyrum.

Bushman explains that individual architectural styles of the homes on the tour are representative of the Gothic Renewal, Queen Anne and Eastlake periods, with turrets, cupolas and ornate wooden ornamentation.

“This will be a rare opportunity to experience our heritage and history as reflected in the architecture of these homes,” Bushman emphasizes.

He adds that St. John’s Episcopal Church will also be open as a bonus feature of this year’s tour.

Established in 1873 by Episcopal Bishop Daniel S. Tuttle, the church’s cornerstone was laid in 1908 and construction was finished in 1910.

The more than 150-year-old church features eight stained glass windows and an ornate granite baptismal font.

As usual, proceeds from the Cache Valley Historic Homes tour will fund scholarships for Utah State University students researching local history, as well as providing transportation for local school children to visit the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville.

Parking is limited in the area of the historic homes, so visitors are encouraged to carpool and to wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Cache Valley Historic Home Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at each home on the tour. Only cash or checks will be accepted for admission to the tour.
