LOGAN — While most of Cache County was ringing in the new year with fireworks and resolutions, Sarah and Adam Fitzgerald were celebrating a milestone of their own.
At 12:25 a.m. on New Year’s Day, the couple welcomed the county’s first baby of 2026 at Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital.
The newborn, currently referred to as Baby Fitzgerald, arrived several weeks ahead of schedule. Weighing 4 pounds, 4 ounces, he is currently receiving care in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Hospital staff reported Friday that the infant is breathing well, eating successfully, and already displaying a “tiny but mighty” personality.
For mother Sarah Fitzgerald, the experience offered a unique shift in perspective. Years ago, she worked in public relations for Intermountain Health, where she was the one coordinating media coverage for New Year’s births.
“I never pictured in a million years that I would be on the other side of things with my own baby, so it’s been really fun,” she said. “Logan Regional is one of the best hospitals, and the NICU is above and beyond. I’ve just been so grateful for them.”
The couple is currently spending time with their son in the NICU as they decide on a first name.
“We’re honored to be part of this sweet family’s story,” the hospital said in a statement. “We are so proud to help welcome Cache County’s very first baby of the year.”
