LOGAN — A 34-year-old Logan man is headed to prison for a string of vehicle thefts and burglaries across the city, including a vehicle stolen from a local garden center in May.
According to court records, Marcus Allen Taylor was sentenced Sept. 14 in Logan’s First District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to four second-degree felony counts of theft in four separate cases.
Prosecutors said Logan Police Department investigators tied Taylor to multiple property and vehicle thefts concentrated in the immediate radius of his home near 310 E. 200 North.
During a May 16 incident, a victim reported a vehicle stolen from the Anderson’s Seed & Garden parking lot after accidentally leaving the keys inside. Later that night, the victim used a tracking application to locate the abandoned vehicle at a local apartment complex.
On June 7, a Utah State University Police officer encountered Taylor attempting to open parked vehicle doors. The officer took field photographs of Taylor and his attire, which investigators noted matched the unique clothing worn by the suspect in the May 16 theft.
Police detained Taylor for an interview the following day. According to a probable cause affidavit, Taylor initially denied being the person in surveillance footage and repeatedly deflected questions.
Taylor also attempted to deceive detectives by providing a false residence, claiming he lived with his uncle. Officers executed a search warrant at that location and found Taylor did not reside there. The resident directed detectives to Taylor’s actual address.
After locating his residence, officers executed a second search warrant on Taylor’s bedroom. Detectives seized the matching clothing and a backpack containing screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers commonly used in vehicle burglaries. Roommates also positively identified Taylor from surveillance footage.
At sentencing, Taylor was ordered to serve four concurrent terms of 1 to 15 years in prison. He received credit for 100 days already served in jail.
