LOGAN – Moving swiftly, the busy Cache County Republicans have already set the date for a special election to replace former Cache County Clerk/Auditor David Benson.

The special election will take place in person during the Cache County Nominating Convention on Saturday, April 13 at Mount Logan Middle School.

Benson resigned his elective position on Mar. 18, citing family health reasons. After being officially notified of that vacancy on Mar. 19, Cache GOP Chair Geoff Cox set the special election on April 13 to select a replacement to fill out that remainder of Benson’s term until January of 2025.

As usual, only members of the Cache County Republican Central Committee (including precinct officers) and county delegates will vote in that election.

Cox also set the filing period for would-be candidates to open at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 21 and close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

Candidates must meet the Qualifications for Candidate Filing Affidavit per Utah Code 20A-9-201.

To file to run in the special election, candidates are advised to their applications to [email protected] on or before the aforementioned deadline.

After filing electronically, candidates must mail a signed paper application to Cache GOP, P.O. Box 43, Logan UT 84323.

Credentialing for the special election/convention will begin at 8 a.m. on April 13, with the GOP convention to come to order immediately following at 9 a.m.
