NORTH LOGAN – While local Democrats were adding their voices to those of anti-Trump protestors in Logan on May 3, their Republican counterparts were gathering here for their organizing convention to elect new party leaders.

That GOP political gathering was held at Green Canyon High School in North Logan where, as expected, Natalie Levi succeeded Geoff Cox as the new chair of the Cache County Republicans.

Levi had served as party vice chair under Cox.

After being elected as the new party chair, Levi delivered an acceptance speech in which she urged local Republicans to “… make a determination to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

“You are hereby called to stand for your beliefs in the values of our Republican Platform,” Levi added, “through education, service, respectful demonstrations and conversations in your daily life.”

Also elected as officers of the Cache GOP were Sonia Larsen of Logan, who succeeded Levi as vice chair; Chris Olsen of Smithfield as party secretary; and John Drew of Providence was re-elected as treasurer.

In balloting for district chairs, Jana Atkinson of Smithfield was re-elected in the Northeast District; Jon-David Jorgensen of Smithfield was voted in as the North District chair; Tim Lindsay of Logan was re-elected in Logan 1 District; Craig Maughan of Logan was voted in as Logan 2 District chair; Aspen Porter of Mendon was voted in as the South District chair; and Bonnie Grieff of Providence was re-elected in the Southeast District.

In selecting local representatives to the Republican State Central Committee, the Cache GOP voted for Jim Atkinson of Paradise, Aaron Rudie of Smithfield, Jacob Howell of North Logan, Valerie Byrnes of Providence and Shawn Milne of Smithfield.

The GOP participants at the organizing convention – who included precinct officers and county delegates – also passed a resolution urging that the American voting privilege and responsibility be returned to the people by a narrow margin of 129 to 125 votes.

The text of that resolution can be found at www.cachegop.com
