LOGAN — A 39-year-old Preston, Idaho, woman has been sentenced to more jail time and probation for assaulting a family member, leaving him with severe injuries.
Shannon Leigh Karpowich and co-defendant Kelly G. Olson, 43, were arrested last fall following an investigation into the incident.
According to court records, Karpowich appeared July 6 in Logan’s First District Court after probation agents reported her violating the terms of her probation. She previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and kidnapping, a second-degree felony, and was sentenced to three months in jail and four years of probation.
On Oct. 27, 2025, Logan police officers were called to a local home and met with a 46-year-old man. He explained that he had gotten into an argument with his sister, who was playing music loudly in the garage.
The man said that when he asked Karpowich to turn down the music, she punched him in the face. Olson and another unidentified woman then reportedly held him down as Karpowich continued punching him in the face and groin. As he got back to his feet, he was shoved over a table, landing on his side.
The victim explained that he was recovering from two back surgeries and a broken foot at the time. He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he sustained three broken ribs and bruises.
During the investigation, police questioned Karpowich, who reportedly admitted to the assault and showed no remorse. She claimed her brother was the aggressor and had been choking her.
During her July 6 show-cause hearing, Karpowich was ordered to serve another 90 days in jail, followed by 48 months of probation.
Olson has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again August 17, 2026.
