CACHE COUNTY – The Cache County branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be looking for a new address in the future, according to County Executive George Daines.
At the regular meeting of the Cache County Council on Aug. 11, Daines received a green light to give the state facility 18-months’ notice of its need to vacate the County Administrative Building.
“We’ve been looking at ways to harden our Administrative Building,” the county executive explained. “Moving DMV out or to a different location would allow us to significantly reduce the traffic in the building over which we have no control.”
The state agency currently occupies space on the second floor of the County Administrative Building.
The decision to provide the DVM with notice of the planned termination of their lease comes in the wake of serious concerns about the safety of local county and state personnel.
Earlier this month, an active shooter incident resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to seven others in an attack at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, ID.
Even closer to home, a 58-year-old Cache Valley man was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill Cache County School Board officials during a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on Aug. 6.
“We’ve also had threats against the life safety of individuals in the county administrative building,” Daines emphasized. “So we’re trying to address that.”
Preliminary plans to increase the safety within the county structure include discussion of moving the locations of various facilities within the admin building and redesigning the building’s entrances.
The Cache County Administrative Building is located at 179 North Main Street in Logan.
