LOGAN — Students at Bridgerland Technical College now have a more direct path to earning a bachelor’s degree at Utah State University through a new partnership between the two Logan-based institutions.
The BTECH Now, USU Next program allows students to begin with career-focused technical training at BTECH while planning for an eventual transition to Utah State. Students who meet transfer requirements can receive direct admission to USU without submitting a separate application, according to information released by the institutions.
The program also includes established credit-transfer pathways into participating USU degree programs, personalized academic advising, automatic consideration for scholarships and support from both institutions.
“Our responsibility is to make it easier for students to reach their goals,” USU President Brad Mortensen said. “Bridgerland Now, USU Next gives students the flexibility to start with the education that best fits their needs today while creating a straightforward path to a Utah State degree tomorrow. It’s a great example of how Utah’s public institutions can work together to expand opportunity, strengthen our workforce, and better serve students across the state.”
The partnership is particularly significant in Cache Valley, where both institutions are headquartered and have long worked to prepare students for the region’s workforce.
Students participating in BTECH Now, USU Next will also have opportunities to become involved with the Aggie community before formally enrolling at Utah State. Those opportunities include student activities, recreation at USU’s Aggie Recreation Center, housing, athletics and other campus events.
At BTECH, students will continue their accelerated, hands-on training and work toward industry-recognized credentials designed to prepare them for employment. For students who later decide to pursue a four-year degree, the new program is intended to make that transition easier.
“BTECH students come to us to gain industry-valued credentials and prepare for rewarding careers,” said Lisa Moon, interim president of Bridgerland Technical College. “BTECH Now, USU Next strengthens that experience by connecting students to Aggie campus life and providing a seamless next step for those who later decide to pursue a degree.”
Rather than having students determine on their own how their technical education applies toward a university degree, the program provides coordinated advising from BTECH and USU. Coursework within participating pathways is designed to transfer directly into corresponding Utah State degree programs.
Eligible students will also automatically be considered for USU scholarships as part of the program.
The partnership builds on an existing relationship between BTECH and Utah State and is designed to give students greater flexibility in combining technical credentials with a four-year degree.
