BRIGHAM CITY — They opened their doors on January 1st, 2020, so they’re fairly new. But 4 Gold Service and Rescue strives to serve an under-served population in the Brigham City community by providing medical alert and task-assistance dogs to the people who need them.

On KVNU’s For the People on Tuesday, executive director of 4 Gold, Tamara Forsyth said what their organization does is they take puppies that have been specially raised, bred for service and started out on a path of learning.

“And our goal is to reduce the wash-out rate, and so when we get the puppies through their basic obedience training, they are raised with puppy-raisers, for about six to eight months. And once they’ve passed their Canine Good Citizen Certification, then we award them along with a $25-hundred dollar scholarship to start on their advanced service dog training,” Forsyth explained.

They are holding their Service and Rescue 2022 Award ceremony this Saturday morning at 1130a.m.at the Brigham City Fine Arts Center (58 South 100 West). She described the inspiration for the name.

“It originated from just 4 Paws, we were just trying to be creative in what we could do, and also the fact that most of the dogs that are awarded are Golden Retrievers. So 4 Paws of Golden Retrievers, and it just came out to 4 Gold.”

This year’s event includes a catered lunch and a silent auction in addition to the award ceremony.  If you would like to attend, please RSVP at 4 Gold.org
