A Box Elder County man between 45 and 64 years of age, is one of the three new COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday by the Utah Department of Health (UDOH).

There have been 4,714 COVID deaths in Utah with 246 of them in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. Today’s death is the 130th in Box Elder County while there have been 112 in Cache County and three in Rich County.

UDOH detected 133 new positive cases across the state since Tuesday, the 22nd straight day of new cases below 200, leaving Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests at 114 a day. School-aged children account for seven of today’s announced total cases.

There have been 927,782 positive cases in Utah since the start of the pandemic.

In Utah there are 95 people hospitalized with COVID-19, two fewer than reported Tuesday, with 19 patients in intensive care, one fewer than Tuesday. State officials report more than 62 percent of Utah’s ICU beds are occupied.

There have been 34,020 hospitalizations in Utah since the start of the pandemic.

The number of Utahns fully vaccinated is nearly two million, close to 62 percent of Utah’s population. There were 2,214 people vaccinated statewide since Tuesday and over five million vaccines have been administered since the start of the pandemic.

With 3,055 Utahns tested since Tuesday there are now over five million people who have been tested and more than 9.4 million total tests have been administered the last 24 months.

UDOH reports that in the last 28 days people who are unvaccinated are at 2.6 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 1.9 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 1.9 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than boosted people.

The new seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 4.0 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 2.7 percent.

Idaho’s Wednesday COVID update indicates 4,870 coronavirus deaths and the new confirmed statewide COVID-19 cases is 443,792 statewide.
