LOGAN – The Board of Directors of the Cache Children’s Choir (CCC) has named Allen Matthews as the organization’s new artistic director.

Matthews is a teacher and has directed choirs at the Logan Institute of Religion at Utah State University. He succeeds Christopher Machado as director of the CCC choral group. Machado was appointed to that position in 2023.

“Securing a new artistic director well-versed in choral leadership ensures a seamless transition,” according to Dr. Heather Jensen, president of the CCC board of directors.

“Although we must bid farewell to Christopher Machado as he departs from Cache Valley,” she adds, “we eagerly anticipate collaborating with Allen Matthews and the exciting future that he brings to the choir’s leadership.”

In addition to his duties at USU, Matthews’ previous experience has included directing choirs at the Orem Institute of Religion at Utah Valley University, serving as the artistic director of the Jazz Voices ensemble at Brigham Young University and functioning as assistant director of the Utah Valley Children’s Choir in Provo.

A native of Star Valley in Wyoming, Matthews holds degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Choral Music Education; K-12 Educational Leadership and Policy Studies; and an Educational Specialist Degree in Education Leadership with an emphasis in Arts Administration.

The Cache Children’s Choir is a local non-profit organization that prepares youngsters for a lifetime of singing by providing quality music training. CCC offers children ranging in ages from pre-school to teenagers the opportunity to participate in five separate choral groups.

“I look forward to jointing forces with the outstanding team of gifted music educators and staff members in striving to help these mini – yet mighty – musicians in developing a lifelong love of music and singing,” Matthews said after his appointment as artistic director of the CCC.

Matthews will join the CCC staff that includes choir directors Deandra Harps, Erika Andrus, Ewa Wilczynski, Leslie Timmons, Meghan Hatfield, Martha Rawlings, Josh Musselman and Jan Jenkins.

Jensen explains that, throughout his career, Matthew has earned praise as a positive and passionate music educator, choral conductor, arranger and singer with varied conducting and teaching experience ranging from elementary to collegiate levels.

“We are thrilled to welcome such a highly skilled conductor to lead the Cache Children Choir,” she adds. “We know that Matthews will positive impact the lives of numerous young vocalists.”
