GARDEN CITY — The Bureau of Land Management is requesting public comment on a proposal to allow the extraction of roughly 360,000 cubic yards of soil, gravel, and rock from public lands near Bear Lake for a proposed expansion of the Bear Lake State Park marina.

The plan, if approved, would authorize Utah State Parks to excavate materials from approximately 11 acres on the lake’s west side in Rich County. The extracted materials, known as “borrow pit” material, would support the construction of a new marina aimed at easing congestion at the current location.

BLM and the State of Utah said the project is part of an ongoing cooperative effort to promote responsible resource development that supports both economic and recreational goals in the state.

Public comments can be submitted through the Bureau of Land Management’s National NEPA Register by selecting the “Participate Now” option. Additional information is available online or by contacting the BLM Salt Lake Field Office at 801-320-8300 or blm_ut_sl_mail@blm.gov.

A rendering of the proposed marina site shared earlier this year places the expansion adjacent to and just to the north of the existing Bear Lake Marina in Garden City. The expanded marina will feature additional boat slips, launch ramps, and an increase in depth.
