SWEETWATER COUNTY, Wyoming — A 22-year-old Providence woman was killed on Monday in a two-vehicle crash east of Rocksprings, Wyoming. Grace Montierth, one of the wrestling coaches at Ridgeline Highschool, died after the car she was in hydroplaned.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 4:07 p.m. on May 5, along Interstate-80, about 33 miles east of Rock Springs.
Montierth was travelling westbound in a Subaru Crosstrek when it started to hydroplane, went into the median, struck the cable barrier on the driver’s side, and entered the eastbound lane.
Law enforcement reported the Subaru continued to the right-hand shoulder, where it started heading back towards the westbound lane.
An eastbound Freightliner then reportedly struck the Subaru on the driver’s side, causing the Subaru to enter a counterclockwise spin and come to a rest in the eastbound median.
Montierth was reportedly wearing a seat belt but didn’t survive the crash. Two others were also reportedly hurt in the crash with non-life threatening injuries.
Family members shared the news of Montierth’s passing on a GoFundMe page. They described the Providence woman as “a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her – full of warmth and generosity.”
Another friend said, “Grace was such a loving and caring person. She was full of energy and always made you smile.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help support Montierth’s family with funeral expenses and any other unforeseen costs during this incredibly difficult time.
Funeral services have not been announced.
