LOGAN — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old Salt Lake City man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old family relative in Logan in 2019, according to court documents filed Thursday.

Taylor Joseph Laing faces potential charges of first-degree felony forcible sodomy and second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse. The Cache County Attorney’s Office filed the affidavit in Logan’s 1st District Court following an investigation by the Logan City Police Department.

According to an arrest affidavit, police received a report in January 2026 regarding a delayed sexual abuse complaint involving a minor. The victim, who was 14 at the time of the alleged offenses, told investigators that Laing was an older family relative with whom he previously spent significant time.

The victim stated that when he was 12 or 13 years old, he spoke with Laing, who was then 18, about his sexual orientation. Conversations between the two subsequently became sexual, with Laing allegedly encouraging the youth to use dating applications and trade nude photographs.

The affidavit details an incident during the summer of 2019, when the victim stayed overnight at Laing’s Logan apartment while Laing was attending Utah State University. Laing allegedly displayed pornography on a television before engaging in sexual acts with the boy.

During a pretext phone call monitored and recorded by law enforcement, the victim confronted Laing about the incidents. According to the filing, Laing acknowledged that the interactions should not have occurred, stating that the situation had been “haunting” him and apologizing for the past events.

The arrest warrant was issued Friday by Judge Spencer Walsh based on the evidence.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
