LOGAN — A 48-year-old Logan man is facing multiple first-degree felony charges, including rape of a child and aggravated child abuse, following an investigation by Smithfield City police officers. Chris Anthony Rodriguez was named in an arrest warrant affidavit dated June 22, 2026, in Utah’s First Judicial District Court.
According to court documents filed by the Cache County Attorney’s Office, Rodriguez faces eight total counts. The charges include rape of a child, object rape of a child penetration, three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, aggravated child abuse, and attempted aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, which are all first-degree felonies. He also faces one class A misdemeanor count of lewdness involving a child.
The charges stem from a series of incidents that allegedly occurred between July 25 and July 29, 2024, while Rodriguez was staying as a visitor at the residence of the 13-year-old victim. Police stated in the affidavit that Rodriguez touched the child inappropriately over her clothing, exposed his genitals, and raped the victim.
The affidavit further alleges that Rodriguez physically assaulted the victim during this timeframe. Rodriguez reportedly held the child down and placed his hands around her throat, strangling her to the point where she could not breathe. Authorities state he did this while demanding the victim give him her phone so he could delete any evidence.
When confronted by multiple individuals, Rodriguez reportedly offered numerous excuses for his actions. These included claiming he was sleepwalking, that the incidents were an accident, and ultimately asserting he only touched the victim because she touched him first.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
