BINGHAM COUNTY, Idaho — A 62-year-old Logan man is missing after his vehicle was found abandoned in the mountains west of Blackfoot.

According to a Facebook post by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Kelly Thayne Archibald, described as an older white male with gray hair and a goatee, was last seen in Logan on June 26. Friends and family reported him missing.

On July 4, an abandoned vehicle was reported near Coffee Point by a caller who had seen it there on June 27 and again on July 4. Bingham County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies responded and found the vehicle, which was out of fuel, belonged to Archibald.

The sheriff’s office stated Archibald may be suffering from delirium, as he was not in his vehicle and his shoes were found inside. He does not have his cellphone with him.

“We are working to gather more information at this time as it is our understanding he is skilled in survival and is quite resourceful,” the BCSO post said. “Many avenues of foot travel are soon met by trails leading to main roads, so we are hopeful that a member of the public saw him and gave him a ride to town.”

Sheriff Chief Deputy Jordyn Nebeker said that those wishing to assist in the search should do so with caution due to temperatures in the area, which can reach into the high 80s and low 40s.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Archibald Family during this difficult time,” the BCSO post concluded.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Archibald’s whereabouts to call (208) 785-1234.
