LOGAN – The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra will present a free concert tonight at 8 p.m. in the Daines Concert Hall in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the campus of Utah State University.
Special guests for this concert will be the Deseret String Quartet.
This production is the opening event of the for the Mormon History Association’s 57th annual national conference being held in Logan this week, according to Nancy Burr of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau.
The public is invited to tonight’s concert as well as the national conference with the theme of “Landscape, Art and Religion: The Intermountain West and the World.”
The AFCO will perform four works by nationally renowned composer Leroy Robertson, who at one time taught music at North Cache High School.
Robertson wrote many classical works along with eight hymns found in the hymnbook of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His arrangements have been performed and recorded by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Robertson is best-known for his Oratorio from the Book of Mormon.
Dr. Roger Miller will give a short presentation about Robertson’s life and works.
The Deseret String Quartet has a rich history of academic and national performances. They have been praised by their “mesmerizing” performances that leave “listeners … utterly inspired by their depth and virtuosity.”
