LOGAN — Five people, including four children, were found dead Saturday afternoon inside a triplex apartment complex in Richmond following a suspected carbon monoxide exposure, emergency officials announced.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, Richmond Fire personnel and medical first responders were dispatched to the residence at 345 West Main Street at approximately 12:15 p.m. after receiving reports from concerned neighbors. According to authorities, neighbors had entered the adjoining unit after hearing carbon monoxide alarms sounding continuously for an extended period.

Upon entering the residence to investigate, a neighbor located an adult male inside the garage who appeared to be deceased. When responding deputies and emergency personnel arrived and conducted a search of the main living space, they discovered four additional deceased victims inside the home.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the ages of the five victims located at the scene: a 43-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victims pending formal notification of next of kin.

First responders immediately cleared the remainder of the building, evacuating occupants from both adjoining units within the triplex as a safety precaution. One adult male resident from an adjacent apartment was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical evaluation and possible carbon monoxide exposure.

Cache County Sheriff D. Chad Jensen said the incident remains an active investigation conducted jointly by law enforcement and fire officials. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause and origin of the lethal gas buildup. Sheriff Jensen noted that further updates will be released as additional details become available.
