LOGAN – The public is being cordially invited to the first annual Block Bash at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art on the Utah State University campus on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Entitled Wild About the West, that free event will be held from 1 to 7 p.m., featuring art-making, music, cowboy poetry, panel discussions, games, face painting, food trucks and much more.
The Block Bash is inspired by the ongoing Lure and Lore of the West exhibit on display in the USU museum until May 8, 2027, according to Danielle Stewart, the NEHMA Head of Academic Initiatives and curator of the exhibit.
Originally unveiled on Jan. 20, Stewart explains that the exhibition explores the blurred lines between Western myth and history, from monster legends like Bigfoot to rugged landscapes and fabled treasure.
Block Bash visitors will experience paintings with unique imagery, famed photographs and sculptures of purported Bigfoot bones, including the work of some acclaimed artists of the American West.
The exhibition also reflects on the region’s most vital resource: its rugged landscapes.
Photographs by Ansel Adams, Harry Reuben Reynolds and Ralph Clark will showcase vistas from our western State and National Parks, which increasingly face pressure from mass tourism and development.
As wilderness disappears, the Lure and Lore of the West exhibit asks: “What stories will remain? What new legends will emerge? Which wild spaces will endure for future generations?”
