SALT LAKE CITY — More than 1 million reservations were claimed in the first 24 hours after online bookings opened for the upcoming Salt Lake Temple open house, church officials announced.
The surge in demand followed the unveiling of the “Rejoice in Christ” theme for the six-month celebration, which will run from April 5 to Oct. 1, 2027. The historic temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been closed since 2020 for extensive structural updates and seismic retrofitting.
Church officials anticipated high global interest for the once-in-a-lifetime tours and planned to release free admission tickets in staged batches. Additional reservation slots will become available in the coming weeks and months through TempleSquare.org, the official Temple Square mobile application, email notifications, and social media channels.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global church with a universal message of Jesus Christ in which we rejoice,” said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, chair of the Salt Lake Temple Executive Committee. “We’re so grateful that we’re here in a community where we’re welcome. We invite you to come and see and love Jesus Christ and the people who come here.”
While free tickets are required to enter the renovated temple interior, church leaders noted that many other campus events and exhibits during the celebration will be open to the public without reservations. The broader Salt Lake Temple Celebration will feature interactive exhibits, musical performances, service opportunities, and cultural activities across Temple Square.
