Mary Ayotta, the executive director of Somebody’s Attic, said their two retail outlets are located at 39 W. 100 N. in Logan, and 3 S. Main St.  in Smithfield. They are considered a non-profit thrift store. They have 60 people working for them. Both locations are open Monday-Saturday 12-5 p.m.

“Our mission is to help both CAPSA and the Family Place to help people facing abuse,” she said. “We use a lot of volunteers; some are court ordered and we have a few paid positions.”

Somebody’s Attic depends on donations from the public. They take the donations and sell them to the public. All proceeds from sales go to prevention and intervention of abuse in Cache Valley.

“We have given over a million dollars to CAPSA and the Family Place over the years,” Ayotta said. “Last year we gave $170,000; the year before we gave them $250,000. The amount is split between the two agencies.”

She said they hope to give the organizations more money this year than they did last year.

If the public wants to donate items to the Logan location, they should take it to the back door of the store. For donations to the Smithfield location, they should be brought through the front door.

“We are trying to update the stores. We try to do the work without spending a lot of money,” she said. “If we get a shelf donated to us, we try to incorporate that into our redesign.”
