ONEIDA COUNTY, Idaho — Idaho State Police are increasing patrols today along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 84, from the Interstate 86 split to the Utah border. Troopers are cracking down Friday on speeders as part of a multi-state enforcement effort that includes Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Alaska.
Lieutenant Tyler Barrett emphasized that “Speed limits exist for a reason – to save lives,” warning that citations will be issued. Speeding is a major factor in serious crashes and fatalities.
Idaho has seen a concerning rise in traffic deaths, with 126 fatalities so far in 2025, up from 113 at this time last year. During the “100 Deadliest Days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there have been at least 50 traffic fatalities, compared to 40 in the same period of 2024.
Drivers are urged to obey speed limits, allow extra travel time, and adjust their speed to conditions. To report a dangerous driver, dial *ISP (*477) from a cell phone.
