LOGAN – Stand-up comic Paul Sheffield will headline the next installment of “Comedy at the Hall” on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Sheffield will bring his own brand of oddball comedy to the LionHeart Hall that evening at 7:30 p.m.

Based in Salt Lake City, Sheffield has been doing stand-up comedy for more than 15 years. During that time, he has gone from humble beginnings at an open microphone event at an Applebee’s to having recently recorded his fifth full-length comedy album, entitled “In My Mind.”

“I really wasn’t enjoying studying and working,” Sheffield admits. “And I always thought I was funny.”

We’ll be the judge of that, Paul.

Sheffield’s other comedy albums are “Sheffield Had it Worse” (2009); “Married to the Mic” (2010); “A Small Human Resources Issue” (2014); and “Sanity at its Finest” (2018).

When not doing stand-up on weekends, Sheffield is employed at a medical staffing firm, which was the inspiration for his comedy riffs on a real-life trip to the company’s HR department.

Sheffield’s comedy isn’t limited to stand-up, however. Early in his career, he was the creator of the “Poor Sport” podcast. Now he continues that interest in broadcasting as the host of YouTube show “The Best Things on the Menu.”

In those podcasts, Sheffield tries everything on the menu at various local restaurants and provides his own comic take on what to order and what to avoid at those eateries.

During a couple recent restaurant excursions, he was accompanied by fellow comics Cheyenne Jackson and Spence Roper, both of whom appeared at the “Comedy at the Hall” performance here in Logan on July 19.

After trying the “Houston, We Have a Problem” sauce at the Houston Hot Chicken restaurant in Salt Lake City, Sheffield crowed that Roper actually cried.

Unlike many young performers on the “Dry Bar” circuit out of Provo, Sheffield is still an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“I definitely make an effort to provide relatable material for someone of faith,” Sheffield explains.

“I don’t like to go across the line into R-rated comedy,” he adds. “I like to play with the PG-13 line, but I definitely want to make sure that anyone who listens to my material wouldn’t be turned off by it.”

Brothers Ryan and Travis Leonhardt have been operating the LionHeart Hall since August of 2023. In addition to theatrical performances (Seussical the Musical and Daddy Long Legs, both produced by Cache Theatre Company), the hall has hosted weddings, corporate events, dances and most recently the Light Switch Stories series.
