SMITHFIELD – With its production of Tarzan barely over, the Four Seasons Theatre Company here has already slated auditions on its next mainstage musical, the beloved Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Those auditions will be held Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16 at Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Hyde Park, with callbacks slated by invitation only on Wednesday, July 17.

The performance dates of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which will be directed by Melinda Richards, will be Oct. 4 to 12 at Sky View High School in Smithfield.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Is a sung-through musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the character of Joseph from the Book of Genesis in the Bible.

The show’s family-friendly story, familiar themes and catchy music have made it a favorite with Utah audiences, especially given its association with singer Donny Osmond’s headlining performances during national tours from 1992 to 1997 and in a film version of the musical in 1999.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is also popular as a showcase for young and old voices, with roles for both children and adults.

The show has been performed by more than 20,000 amateur stage groups and schools, according to the owners of its copyright. Here in Cache Valley, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been performed twice in recent memory by the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre.

The audition schedule will be the same for the evenings of July 15 and 16.

Auditions for children will be from 5 to 6 p.m., with a dance audition to follow from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Auditions for adults will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with dance auditions to follow from 9 to 10 p.m.

A sign-up sheet to reserve times for auditions is now open at www.fourseasonstheatre.org

In addition to Ms. Richards, the production team for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will include Melissa Hamilton as music director; Kristi Gilbert as children’s music director; Amber Freeman, Melisa Jensen and Katie Packard as choreographers; and Anissa Wellington and Bethany Potts as stage managers.

In addition to that production, the Four Seasons Theatre Company also plans to stage its first non-musical mystery play, The 39 Steps, from Aug. 1 to 10 at Sky View High School.
