LOGAN — For decades, local residents have had fond memories of gliding on the ice at Merlin Olsen Park. Now, there’s another outdoor venue for ice skating, with the opening of the rink at the new Laub plaza in downtown Logan.

The rink opened for business this past Saturday, and last week on KVNU’s For the People program, Logan Parks and Recreation Director Russ Akina said their goal is to keep the rink going through March, if possible.

“We’ll see as things go on as to whether any changes need to be made to that, but that’s our plan right now. You can go on to the website, which is pr.loganutah.org to get more information on that. We also have a QR code available on that site too that will guide people to how they can book a time for any of the sessions that are presented,” Akina explained.

He said for the plaza, they are working on a number of groups and organizations to plan live performances using the new stage and sound system on hand, along with more and varied recreational activities.

“And, it’s a little early to be talking about this, but after March, when we disassemble the rink, we’ll be then preparing the plaza grounds for a splash pad that will operate during the summer months. So, there’s plenty to do, there’s been a lot of planning and continues to work into the schedule.”

Again the website to make reservations for ice skating is pr.loganutah.org.
