LOGAN — For the week of August 14-19, Bear River girls soccer goalkeeper Emily Robison and Sky View football quarterback Carson Thatcher were named Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds.

Robison played all 80 minutes in both of Bear River’s games last week, recording two shutouts in the Bears’ pair of 1-0 wins over St. Joseph and West. Those games helped Bear River to a 4-1 record so far this season, the team’s best start to a season since 2014.

Thatcher accounted for five touchdowns and 471 overall yards in Sky View’s 56-35 win over Wasatch. He completed 28 of 35 passes for 439 yards and four passing TDs along with 32 rushing yards and one rush TD. He set a new career-high in completions, passing yards, and points accounted for.

Other nominees for the two awards included Mia Lopez (Logan girls soccer), Maylee Reynolds (Ridgeline girls soccer), Ryen Smith (Sky View volleyball), Sofia Ortiz (Green Canyon volleyball), JT White (Ridgeline football), Dax Benson (Mountain Crest football), Tanner Ferrin (Green Canyon football), Owen Olsen (Bear River football) and Keaton Pond (Logan football).

Tune in to the Full Court Press on 106.9 FM and 1390 AM each Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. to hear the announcement of the Players of the Week throughout the 2023-24 high school sports year.

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group staff and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Rex Davis, Jason Walker, Josh Anderson, JarDee Nessen, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Stockton Jewkes, Adam Loertscher and Eric Frandsen.
