LOGAN — A 27-year-old Logan woman has confessed to abusing a young child as a form of punishment. Arianda Isabel Ramos-Palma was originally arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail in December, before being released while the case against her proceeded through the court.
According to court records, Ramos appeared Wednesday morning in 1st District Court in Logan. She accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to child abuse, amended to a class A misdemeanor; and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.
As part of the plea resolution, prosecutors agreed to drop a remaining charge against Ramos.
On December 7, 2022, Logan City Police officers responded to a domestic dispute. When they arrived at the Logan home, they found a seven-year-old girl wet and crying.
A witness told police how Ramos had found the girl engaged in inappropriate behavior with another child. She took the girl to the bathroom, where she held the child in the shower, while choking her and slapping her face.
Officers noted how the young girl was still emotional and crying as they arrived. She was wearing pajamas that were heavily saturated.
According to the plea affidavit, filed during Wednesday’s court appearance, Ramos admitted to “taking what she felt were appropriate disciplinary actions to rectify the situation.”
Ramos will be sentenced next month. Both charges carry a potential of up to 364 days in jail and $2,500 in fines.
