LOGAN — A 24-year-old Logan man is headed to prison for brutally raping multiple women while on dates with them. Spencer Eric Dodd cried and wiped tears from his eyes as some of the victims described him as a monster and predator.

Dodd was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of rape, a first-degree felony; and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

In February 2022, Dodd, who is originally from Spokane, Washington and moved to Logan to attend Utah State, was arrested after two women reported being raped during dates with him. The victims described to Logan City Police officers similar situations where he refused to comply with the women’s lack of consent but later apologized for acting anyway.

Two weeks later, Dodd was arrested again after a third woman contacted police, describing how she was also raped by the defendant, while on a date in September 2020. She had met him on a dating app geared toward members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They arranged to meet at a house near USU’s campus, where the assault took place.

In April, a fourth woman came forward, describing how she was raped by Dodd earlier in the year. The woman reported meeting the defendant on an online dating app. They agreed to meet and watch a movie at his residence.

While on the date, the woman said Dodd began assaulting and raping her. He also placed his hand around her neck and covered her mouth, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, several of the women testified how Dodd hit, bit and brutally raped them for hours. “He is a dangerous, cruel monster, who should be locked up for the rest of his life,” said one of the victims.

Cache County Attorney Dane Murray praised the women for their courage and said it likely saved others from becoming victims. He called the defendant a serial rapist.

Dodd told the court he wished to express a sincere apology to everyone that had been affected by what he did. He hoped healing would come to everyone involved with the “terrible things” he’d done.

Judge Brian Cannell questioned how Dodd could do what he did to the four women. He sentenced him to a term of at least six-years-to-life in prison.
