
BEAR LAKE COUNTY, Idaho — A 13-year-old Pocatello girl drowned in Bear Lake on Saturday, according to law enforcement.
According to a news release, Bear Lake County Sheriff’s deputies received multiple 911 calls around 6 p.m. reporting that the girl was missing on the East Shore of the lake. The Sheriff’s Office marine deputies with boats were in the area within minutes and located the girl, who was immediately turned over to medical personnel.
“Despite heroic medical efforts the female was pronounced deceased at 9 p.m.,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.
The girl’s identity was not released, pending notification of family.
“The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathy to the family. And a heartfelt thanks to all first responders and the public who worked to try and locate the young lady,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in its news release. “Tragically this incident emphasizes the importance of life jackets while engaging in water activities.”
