Utah health officials are watching the number of hospitalizations and emergency room visits to determine the severity of Utah’s  coronavirus outbreaks and Thursday’s statewide report indicates both have grown, slightly, the last seven days.

With 151 hospitalizations since last week, over 35,000 Utahns have been hospitalized with COVID since the start of the pandemic. Also, patients with coronavirus made up over four percent of emergency room visits in the past week; it was 3.78 percent the week before.

Utah’s COVID-19 deaths increased to 4,806 over the last 27 months, including 13 since last Thursday. There were 933 cases each day reported the last seven days. That is down from 1,073 a day the previous week.

Over 62 percent of Utah’s population — exactly 2,028,527 — are fully vaccinated.

A total of 252 new COVID cases were included in the latest weekly report from the Bear River Health District, which includes Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. Among the 186,000 who live in the three counties, there have been 52,642 coronavirus cases, 247 deaths and 2,092 hospitalizations. More than 60 percent of the district’s population, ages 5+, is fully vaccinated.
