WELLSVILLE – There is a new business in Cache Valley’s first settlement. Wellsville has a new specialty sandwich shop: Chef D’s at Maple Market located at 85 Main Street. They also carry a few grocery necessities.

Wellsville’s Chef D’s Maple Market located at 85 Main Street is open for business.

Chef D’s offers nine different Philly sandwiches and three different breakfast burritos. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday they are open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The Philly cheesesteak sandwich is made from thinly sliced pieces of beefsteak and melted cheese on a long hoagie roll. The sandwich is a popular regional fast food, and originally was part of the food culture of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Troy Detweiler, owner of the restaurant, said one of his best customers in Logan was Tony Johnson who remodeled the Wellsville property and they got to talking. When he saw the work at the Wellsville store, he was all in.

Detwiler graduated from a Las Vegas culinary school in 1995. He worked at various jobs, none had connections to the food industry. An accident caused him to reevaluate his future. He had a crushed femur. After 18 months of therapy, he was able to regain his ability to walk and he decided it was time to follow his dream to open a restaurant.

He’s been making his specialty for 12 years. Most of that time he had a eatery in North Ogden. He decided to move to Logan. He attended school at Utah State University and liked Cache Valley.

Detwiler’s Chef D’s was in Logan for the past eight years and now the business is in Wellsville.

Some of his Logan customers drive out to the new location just to have one of his sandwiches.

One customer sitting at a table with a friend said, “This is one of the best Philly sandwiches around. You’ll love it. We came from Logan to eat here.”

Mo Hanadi was cooking up some sandwiches Friday afternoon and said they have been busy.

“We get really busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” he said. “Besides the sandwiches, fries, and onion rings we also do a breakfast burrito that keeps us busy in the mornings.”

Selling milk, eggs and bacon is a new venture for them. The eatery offers Starbucks Coffee, soft drinks and Rockstar energy drinks.

The people of Wellsville seem to have opened their arms to the business.

Mike and Connie Leishman stopped in to give the food a try last Friday. They picked up their food and took it home.

Leishman said this was their first time trying the food.

Leesa Cooper, the Wellsville City Treasurer, said everyone is excited to have Chef D’s in the city. The Main Street business block has been vacant for a long time.

“We have Burger King and Maverik out on the highway, but this is an in-town restaurant,” she said. “They have fixed the building up really nice. We are so glad to have them in Wellsville.”

“It looks like they have been really busy,” Cooper added.
