Hyrum will celebrate the 4th of July will daylong activities and a traditional fireworks display at dusk.

HYRUM – Officials are preparing for a citywide celebration of Independence Day over the coming weekend.

“Hyrum’s Star-Spangled Celebration is a traditional event for families,” according to Mayor Stephanie Miller. “The celebration includes a youth parade, followed by a water fight with our firemen and a teen dance at the Elite Hall.

“A parade on the morning of the 4th of July followed by spectacular fireworks that evening is a great way to celebrate.”

The weekend celebration will kick-off on Saturday, July 2 with a youth parade on the City Square at Main and Center streets. Children can sign up to join the parade at 10 a.m., with the parade to follow at 10:30 a.m.

The annual water fight with the Hyrum Fire Department will begin at 11 a.m. at East Park at Main Street and 800 East.

On Sunday, July 3, the city will host a Patriotic Program at the City Square at 7 p.m.

The guest speaker for that event will be Jennie Taylor of North Ogden.

Taylor is the widow of Army Maj. Brent Taylor, the major of North Ogden who was killed in an insider attack in Afghanistan in 2018.

Hyrum’s Patriotic Children’s Choir will also perform.

Independence Day will open with a Chuck Wagon Breakfast, a traditional fundraiser for the Mountain Crest Marching Band. The bill of fare will include a regular breakfast of ham, eggs, pancakes and a drink for $6 and a large meal for $8.

The Chuck Wagon Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. in the City Square.

The Blacksmith Fork Freedom Run will begin at 7 a.m. on July 4. Runners in the nearly 10-mile race will start at the Hyrum Power Plant in Blacksmith Fork Canyon and finish at the City Square in Hyrum.

A flag ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. in the City Square. Following that event, the flags will be moved to the Grand Old Flags Historic Display in the Elite Hall.

The annual 4th of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade route stretches from 700 East Main to 200 West, 200 North along Main Street.

Residents are cautioned that reserving seating space along the parade route will not be allowed until 5 a.m. on July 4th.

In the early evening, the Hyrum Hornets will face the Smithfield Blue Sox in a baseball game at East Park. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The city’s traditional fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m., followed by a teen dance at the Elite Hall until midnight.
