March 29, 1933 — October 11, 2023 (age 90)

Vynette Nelson Burnett (Humma) passed away peacefully at her home at Birch Creek Assisted Living in Smithfield, Utah on the morning of October 11th.

Vynette was born March 29, 1933 in Weston, Idaho to Howard and Edna Nelson, both teachers who instilled in her a love of reading and learning. Vynette followed her sense of adventure, leaving Idaho to attend school, serve a mission for the LDS church, and move to San Francisco with her sister Myrna, where she met her husband, Al. They were adventurers together, and later with their children, living in many states and countries, including Iran, the Netherlands, and Guam, and traveling the world. They retired to Dayton, Idaho in 1991, renovating the home Vynette’s grandfather built so she could return to the mountains she loved, and they found adventure there too, as well as community.

Vynette is survived by her children, Michael Burnett and Melinda White, her grandchildren—Wylie, Kendall, Garrett, Abigayl, Audrey, and Erik, three great-grandchildren, her brothers and sister-in-law, many beloved nieces and nephews, and many dear and beloved friends and caregivers.

She joins her husband, Alva (Al) Burnett, her parents, Howard and Edna Nelson, her siblings—Scott, Myrna, and Joyce, several dear friends, and beloved pets, most recently her best friend Bob Cat.

All who knew Vynette knew her dazzling smile, playful nature, and probably her hugs. Her light will be profoundly missed.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and residents at Birch Creek Assisted Living and her hospice nurse, Nancy, for loving and caring for our mom. You brought her such comfort and joy in her daily life, and thus to us as well. Thank you.

Services and celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 12:00 pm, with a viewing preceding at 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Dayton, Idaho Chapel (825 N. Westside Hwy. Dayton, Idaho). We will be inviting guests to share a brief memory if they wish.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the animal rescue or humane society of your choice to honor Vynette’s love for animals.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com.
