LOGAN – Based on interest in yesterday’s first U.S. Zoom Education Summit on the Utah State University campus, indications are USU and Zoom are planning to partner again and make this an annual event, while inviting the entire western region to participate.

Kevin Reeve, USU’s director of teaching and learning technology, said the idea for Wednesday’s event was conceived when USU representatives met with Zoom officials in January at the company’s headquarters in San Jose, California.

“Out of that came the idea that we should hold an education summit around Zoom and this technology and invite schools from the intermountain West,” Reeves said. “We raised our hand and said ‘We’ll host it here in Logan.’ It was a huge success.”

Reeve said USU wants to continue to provide a high-quality learning environment while providing choice of whether students participate in-person, virtually or both.

Utah State wants to be on the cutting edge,” Reeves added. “We care about that one student that’s in rural Utah. We care about that one student who is there and wants to improve their skills, get a degree and increase their ability to get a different job or a better job or a higher paying job.”

During Wednesday’s event participants experienced instructional technologies in the Classroom Innovation Lab and pilot classrooms in USU’s Distance Education building.
