LOGAN – During a rare evening commencement service Wednesday night, Utah State University graduates officially received their degrees and joined the school’s 183,000 alums, as part of USU’s 138th graduation ceremony.

Commencement speaker, 1991 USU graduate William “Willy” Lensch, told the graduates there were many people in the crowd who have helped the graduates in their journeys to this moment.
“Graduates,” he said, “I encourage you to do the same for others, and to do it for your entire life. The surest way to improve the quality of your own life, is to improve the quality of someone else’s.”
Lensch, currently associate provost for research at Harvard University, and Utah philanthropist Kem C. Gardner both received honorary degrees during the ceremony.

College convocations and hooding ceremonies will begin Thursday morning, May 1 and will continue through Friday, May 2.
By the end of Friday, 4,651 bachelor’s degrees, 1,287 master’s and 162 doctorate degrees will have been presented.
