LOGAN – The combined choirs and organ students from the Music Department at Utah State University are preparing to present Wintersongs 2023.
That cherished Cache Valley holiday event is scheduled at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Hyde Park, starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30.
“This year’s Wintersongs concert will feature music that is far from the commercial, artificial glitz we often see during the holidays,” said Cory Evans, director of choral activities at USU.
Evans explains that Wintersongs 2023 will feature beautiful, timeless choral music — performed by the USU Treble Choir, Chorale and Chamber Singers — with English handbells, the church’s organ, strings and a candlelight procession that will make for a warm and wonderful atmosphere.
The evening will include music of Giovanni Gabrieli, Pavel Tschesnokoff, John Rutter, David Willcocks and a festive performance of Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” with harpist Chilali Hugo.
According to Evans, the choirs will also combine to perform inspiring seasonal favorites accompanied by David Jones on the “glorious” organ at St. Thomas church.
The choir student will present two performances of Wintersongs, one beginning at 6 p.m. and another at 8 p.m.
Evans says that both concerts are free and open to the public, but children under the age of 8 are not invited.
No tickets are required for entry.
Donations to the USU Choirs will be accepted, however.
