NORTH LOGAN – Six months ago the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it would be making funds available to Utah residents in undeserved rural communities who may need help with home repairs. Rural Development Utah State Director Michele Weaver said the projects aim to create economic opportunities and improve the lives of people residing in rural areas of the state.
To help residents learn more about qualifying for home repair assistance and the application process, an Open House has been scheduled at the USDA Rural Development field office located at 1860 North 100 East in North Logan. The event is set to take place on Wednesday, June 21, from 1-3 p.m. Interested residents are encouraged to attend and gain information regarding the available resources.
In her announcement in December, Weaver emphasized the significance of safe, healthy, and affordable housing for local economies.
“By providing a broad spectrum of solutions for housing in rural areas, we strengthen the community,” Weaver said. “… USDA is investing in opportunity and prosperity for all people, regardless of background or financial status, who make up the character and personality of our great country’s rural cities and towns.”
The investments fall under USDA Rural Development’s Housing Preservation Grant Programs and provide grants to sponsoring organizations, enabling them to repair or rehabilitate housing that is either owned or occupied by low and very-low-income rural residents. The aim is to enhance the quality and safety of housing options available to rural communities.
