Jimmy Birman the ne director of the United Way Cache Valley announces the United for Ukraine support for refugees exiting the war-torn country.

LOGAN – While the conflict in Ukraine continues, one local service group is mounting a drive to help the people of the war-torn country.

Jimmy Birman, executive director of United Way of Cache Valley, said his organization is stepping up to support United for Ukraine, a fund drive to help some four-million refugees that are expected to leave their country due to attacks on their homeland.

“United Way of Cache Valley stands ready to mobilize the caring power of our global community,” he said. “We want to help ease the suffering of those whose lives have been upended and whose future is uncertain.”

Neighboring countries – Poland, Romania and Hungary – are expecting large waves of refugees escaping the violence and are needing help to care for those looking for shelter.

“It can often be the worst of times that brings out the best in people,” Birman said.

The conflict has been devastating and upended the lives of Ukrainians whose future is uncertain. As part of their mission of mobilizing the caring power of communities for the common good, United Way is launching the United for Ukraine Fund in response to this urgent and growing humanitarian crisis.

United Way is not going at it alone, they are partnering up with United Way of Romania, United Way of Hungary and Fundacja Dobrych Inicjatuw (Good Initiatives Foundation) of Poland and other partners as the needs and opportunities manifest themselves.

All of the partners are vetted, nonpartisan organizations that are on the ground providing vital help and hope to those who’s lives and families have been shattered by the conflict.

Right now, the fund will address the immediate needs of those fleeing their country like transportation, accommodations, food, medicine, hygiene kits, childcare supplies like infant formula and diapers. The organization will also help with long term needs of those fleeing Ukraine as they become apparent.

Ninety-five percent of the money will go directly to those being affected by the growing humanitarian crisis.
