LOGAN – Two Cache Valley residents are headed to the Democratic National Convention in August in Chicago.
Representing Cache County and Utah’s 1st Congressional District at that Democratic gathering will be Shannon Rhodes and Colin Hastings.
The chair of the Cache County Democrats, Rhodes was selected to be one of Utah’s 34 delegates to the National Convention by the State Democratic Convention on April 27.
Rhodes grew up in Box Elder County and is a graduate of Utah State University. She works locally as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in healthcare.
She ran unsuccessfully for the Cache County Council in 2018 and the Hyde Park City council in 2019.
At the Democratic National Convention, Rhodes will be the only female delegate representing Utah from north of Salt Lake City.
Also selected as a delegate by the April 27 state convention, Hastings will be Utah’s sole representative on the Democratic Convention’s Rules Committee.
That body is responsible for producing a report on the rules of the party’s convention and setting the convention agenda. It also recommends individuals to serve as permanent officers of the convention.
Hastings is a Cache Valley native and a member of the Cache Young Democrats at Utah State University.
The Democratic National Convention will be held Aug. 19 to 22 in the city of Chicago. Organizers of that event expect it to draw more than 50,000 visitors to that city, including 5,000 delegates and 15,000 members of the media.
