Sanchez teaches 7th grade math at Spring Creek Middle School.
Spring Creek Middle School Principal Blair Powell presented the award to Sanchez and spoke candidly about the teacher’s impact on students.
“John has the ability to look at kids and see himself in them,” Powell said to the board, adding that it was a unique ability. “He has empathy for struggling students. He has empathy for students who just need a little boost. He inspires greatness because he is able to have empathy.”
Nilsson teaches resource at South Cache Middle School and has been a teacher there for six years.

South Cache Middle School Principal Randy Bennion presented the award and said in the 20+ years of being an administrator he has never had so many teachers nominate the same individual in one year.
“It is recognized throughout the entire school what an awesome job she does,” Bennion told the board.
Connie Rawlins teaches resource at Sky View High School.

“All teachers have expectations, but I think the difference between a mediocre teacher and a great teacher – is the teacher has higher expectations for themselves,” said Dave Swenson, who worked with Rawlins at Sky View when he was principal and now serves as the CCSD Executive Director of Secondary School Support.
“And she demonstrated that all the time in her professionalism and also in the way she treated the young kids.”
The board invited the friends or family of the recognized teachers stand.
“We know that behind every great teacher is a great team and a great family so thank you so much for sharing your people with us,” said Teri Rhodes Cache County School District Board Member.
