LOGAN – For approximately 40 years Cache County Sub for Santa has been helping individuals and families across the valley during the Christmas season. This year the organization is seeking more help than ever.
Program directors Emily Malik and Jennifer Bishop put their heart and soul making the program a success.
“The need this year is greater than we have seen in recent years, and we have exceeded our capacity for this program year,” Malik said. “As such, we are coming to our great residents of Cache County to ask for help in supporting the children served by Cache County Sub for Santa.”
They have set a goal of raising $20,000 for the 2024 season to meet the needs of the children and are pleading with the public for help.
Sub for Santa is a nonprofit with a mission to provide gifts during the Christmas season to Cache County children in families whose income falls at or below 138% of poverty level.
“The impact on each child we serve can be life changing,” Malik added, “but our program moves beyond simply material goods, it also helps free up financial resources for families to avoid debt and/or focus on basics like rent, food, and other needs that people may put to the side to afford Christmas gifts for their family.”
Here are four ways that residents can help:
- Sponsor a family
- Visit a KUTV Angel Tree at Smith’s Marketplace in Logan to sponsor a child.
- Visit one of many single item gift trees located at Lee’s (Logan, Richmond, and Smithfield), Spence’s Pharmacy, The Kater Shop, Great Harvest, or Eyemart Express.
- Make a monetary donation
The mission of the Cache County Sub for Santa program is to provide temporary assistance during the Christmas season to individuals and families residing in Cache County who are in need.
More than a hundred individuals and businesses give to help provide what is needed to serve the children accepted into the program and cover program costs.
“We are always amazed at the generosity and thoughtful giving from our sponsors and supporters,” Malik said. “We are proud to coordinate the opportunity for members of the community to support each other.
“The impact on each child we serve can be life changing, but our program moves beyond simply material goods, it also helps free up financial resources for families to avoid debt and/or focus on basics such as rent, food, and other needs that may be put aside so they can afford Christmas for their family. With your help, we can continue to give.”
