LOGAN – A new effort from Utah State University to deal with substance abuse begins this week with the first of 12 free monthly Zoom sessions.
USU’s Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice calls it the “Time to Act ECHO: Substance Abuse” and it begins Wednesday, Jan. 10 on Zoom from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. MST.
The sessions are designed to help behavioral health providers, mental health community clinics, plus social workers, substance abuse providers, pediatricians and other medical providers. Family members are also encouraged to participate.
The sessions will provide a guided practice model that offers best practices and professional development. Videoconferencing is led by expert teams offering evidence-based practices. Participants will receive relevant professional development.
IDRPP Program Coordinator Janel Preston said the focus of the ECHO sessions is to understand the impact of substance abuse, that it is felt far beyond the individual.
“Anything we do, it impacts the whole family,” said Preston. “For example, if the mom is incarcerated or the husband is doing drugs, that’s impacting the whole family system.”
Sessions are offered at noon on second Wednesday of each month via Zoom video conferencing technology.
