LOGAN — A 21-year-old Stansbury Park man appeared in court for the first time on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman last fall in Cache Valley. Dillon Wade Wright Sweeda made his initial appearance Monday morning in 1st District Court.
According to an arrest affidavit, the alleged victim contacted the Cache County Sheriff’s Office claiming Sweeda had attempted to rape her while on a date, Oct. 9, 2022. She explained how the suspect picked her up from her apartment in Logan and drove around the valley.
When it started getting late, the woman expressed a desire to go home. Sweeda reportedly ignored her and drove toward the west area of the valley.
The alleged victim told deputies that somewhere near Clarkston or Trenton, Sweeda stopped his truck and began groping her. He tried to remove her clothes as she resisted, the affidavit outlined.
Sweeda continued to inappropriately touch the woman until restarting the truck and driving her home.
The alleged victim said Sweeda texted her later, apologizing for his actions, the warrant stated. “He knew that was wrong of him and he should have taken her home the first time she said something.”
In November, the woman made a recorded phone call with Sweeda, confronting him about the assault allegations. He again apologized for not having her consent, but said he was excited and wanted to have sex with her.
Court records show, Sweeda was charged with two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. He is currently out of jail after posting $20,000 bail, and could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
