LOGAN – Stand-up comedy is returning to Cache Valley – but to a new and different venue.

Representing “Dry Bar Comedy,” stand-up artist Aaron Woodall will perform at the Lionheart Hall on Friday, July 19.

With tongue firmly in cheek, Woodall modestly describes himself “… as being as charming and delightful on stage as I am honest and vulnerable.”

Yeah, right.

Once a nice young man adored by Latter-day Saint mothers and bishops everywhere, Woodall says that he sadly grew into a hedonistic hoodlum who finds joy in sick, depraved delights. But that doesn’t stop him from delivering comedy routines that have been judged as “squeaky clean” by the audiences of his “Dry Bar Comedy” appearances.

Launched in Provo in 2016, “Dry Bar Comedy” maintains a stable of professional comedians who have a reputation for family-friendly content in their routines.

A resident of Salt Lake City, Woodall began doing local stand-up in 2011 while enrolled at “The Lord’s University” (aka BYU). After graduating, he came to the sad realization that his degree from BYU was “a complete and expensive waste of time,” and then began touring professionally.

His routines, which have been described as equally hilarious and heartwarming, can be seen in the YouTube special “Cry for Me Daddy;” two shows streaming on “Dry Bar Comedy” and Comedy Dynamics channels; and also in video clips on the Amazon, Fox and Hulu streaming platforms.

Stand-up comedy is nothing new in Cache Valley.

During its past two national touring seasons, the Cache Valley Center for the Arts hosted comedy nights with varying degrees of success. The last of those events in 2024 was pre-emptively cancelled by CacheArts executive director Wendi Hassan, who reluctantly acknowledged that the huge Ellen Eccles Theatre just wasn’t the right venue for intimate comedy performances.

The owners of the newest Cache Valley venue for performing arts, Lionheart Hall, quickly stepped up to fill that vacuum in terms of stand-up comedy.

Brothers Ryan and Travis Leonhardt have been operating the new venue since August of 2023. In addition to theatrical performances (Seussical the Musical and Daddy Long Legs, both produced by Cache Theatre Company), the hall has hosted weddings, corporate events, dances and most recently the Light Switch Stories series.

Ryan Leonhardt believes that the 200-300 seat art deco venue will also be ideal for stand-up comedy.

Woodall’s performance is slated from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets for that event can be purchased online at https://www.lionhearthall.com/upcoming-events

Lionheart Hall is located at 480 North, 100 East in Logan.
