Internet outage
HYRUM – Several Cache Valley schools may start the first day of classes without an internet network connection which will also affect computer and cell phone usage.
Unless something changes between tonight and the start of school tomorrow Mountain Crest High School, Canyon Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, South Cache Middle School, Nibley Elementary and Wellsville Elementary will be without internet services.
A cable company said there were five cables that have been cut and are in need of repair. There are between 48 and 720 fibers in each cable making the repair painstakingly slow.
Some of the outage began Monday afternoon and has carried through Tuesday night. The outage has also affected several cell phone carriers.
Some schools had backup lines from schools running through the Logan School District office. With a major outage, both the primary fiber and the redundant fiber have been affected.
For clarification, we have backup lines from every school that allows some failover redundancy running through the Logan Schools District Office. Schools running on backup systems include Spring Creek Middle School, Millville Elementary, Providence Elementary and River Heights Elementary.
