LOGAN — A 20-year-old Smithfield man has been arrested and charged with allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl after supplying her drugs and alcohol, according to law enforcement. Manny Bald Eagle was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail, where he is being held temporarily without bail.
Bald Eagle was arraigned Friday in 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with rape, object rape, forcible sodomy, all first-degree felonies; and furnishing alcohol to a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Andrew Crane said the alleged victim described to police how Bald Eagle supplied her alcohol and marijuana. He then raped her repeatedly.
Crane asked the court to hold Bald Eagle without bail. He explained how the suspect was already on probation for drug distribution and had multiple other arrests recently.
Defense attorney Ashley Bown asked the court for time to review the evidence before arguing bail for her client.
Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Bald Eagle to remain in jail and appear again in court October 5.
Court records show that during the past two years, Bald Eagle has been arrested 20 times for various offenses ranging from drug possession, driving under the influence and failing to stop at the command of law enforcement. He could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
