We mournfully share the passing of Shannon Lee Baltazar, a loving father, brother, and friend. Shannon was born to LaVonne Norman and Fred Baltazar on October 24, 1971. He grew up in Cache Valley, where he spent his childhood making friends, participating in competitive sports, and paving his path to living an adventurous life.
Shannon was a fierce wrestler at an early age, frequently winning Amateur Athletic Union wrestling meets and earning the title of Most Valuable Player in his regional weight division for having the fewest points scored against him. After wrestling, he became interested in baseball, playing in youth leagues throughout his childhood and finishing as an infield defender and second baseman in high school varsity baseball.
After graduating high school, he thoroughly enjoyed camping and fishing, and spending time with his family and friends, riding motocross bikes, snowmobiling, and hunting bears in Montana during the spring and Mule Deer in Idaho and Wyoming in the fall. His life was filled by the blessings he received from his three children, Branson, Braxton, and Swayzie, whom he adored and loved. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with Branson, skateboarding with Braxton, playing dolls with Swayzie, and supporting their goals.
Shannon was an industrious worker and valued employee for Associated Brigham Contractors, Nucor Corporation, and Curtis Larsen Concrete Construction. As of late, after an honest day of demanding work, he valued spending his free time riding his horse with his sister Heather and Cory across the countryside and as far away from town as he could.
Shannon invested his happiness and freedom with the clear understanding of one principle: some things are within your control and some things are not. It is only after you accept this fundamental rule and learn to distinguish between what you can and cannot control, that inner tranquility and outer effectiveness become possible. Nothing can truly be taken from us. There is nothing to lose. Everything, including life, is on lean from the world. Inner peace begins when we stop saying we lost things, and instead say it has been returned to where it came from. The important thing is to take great care of what you have while the world lets you have it.
Everyone who’s seen Shannon’s smile and heard his laughter knows how much he is loved. Shannon expanded his friendships and extended his family intensely. His unexpected passing has impacted many and he will be profoundly missed.
Shannon is survived by his children: Branson (Holly), Braxton (Heather), Swayzie (Monica); Parents: Lavonne (Curtis) Larsen, Fred (Taryn) Baltazar, Corey (Lucy) Ekins; Siblings: Tony (Suza) Ekins, Heather Haberstick (Cory), Ryan (Jennifer) Larsen, Alex Larsen, Buzz (Kim) Valdez, Matt (Kristie) Baltazar, Amy (Sergio) Vazquez, Sharyl Mock, Eric Kraus, Margaret (Dusty) Stevens, Brian Needham, and 12 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm, followed by Reflections and Memories between 2:00pm – 3:00pm at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, located at 420 East 1800 North, North Logan, Utah.
