LOGAN — A second teenager has died from injuries sustained in Saturday night’s two-vehicle crash in Providence. The boy and girl have both been identified by law enforcement, as the investigation into the crash continues.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cade Brenchley said CJ Fiefia, 17, of Avon died at the scene of the crash. Xylie Hutchinson, 14, of Hyrum passed away at a trauma center Sunday morning.

Troopers report the five teenagers, three boys and two girls, were traveling in a Toyota Corolla, near 1815 South SR-165. The car was northbound when it lost control and skidded into the far southbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Toyota Sienna.

The force of the impact caused the Corolla to roll, coming to a rest on its top.

Brenchley said none of the teenagers were wearing seat belts. Three kids were ejected from the vehicle or were able to climb out before paramedics arrived. Two others were pinned inside and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

Fiefia was trapped inside the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to Kassaundra Hutchinson, Xylie’s mother, the 14-year-old girl suffered major head trauma along with multiple breaks and fractures in every limb. Because of the lack of blood flow, her brain hemorrhaged, leaving her with no brain activity.

The three remaining occupants are still in critical condition. They remain in Salt Lake and Ogden trauma centers after being transported by ambulances from the scene.

There were five occupants inside the Sienna, two adults and three children, who sustained minor injuries and were also treated at the hospital. They were all wearing seatbelts or in car seats.

Brenchley said it does not appear either driver was impaired. Troopers are still investigating speed as the primary factor in the crash. One witness who was traveling behind the Sienna said the Corolla lost control and skidded so quickly, they didn’t see it until it was right in front of the minivan.

The crash forced the closure of a section of SR-165 for more than four hours.

Multiple agencies assisted troopers, including the Logan Police Department, Logan Fire Department, and the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.

Funeral services for CJ Fiefia and Xylie Hutchinson have not been finalized.
